Before I begin this story I should probably preface it with some key facts…
I am currently in Orlando, Fl. I’m doing another convention here (think San Diego, Atlantic City, New Orleans etc.) and will be here until the 24th of October. I arrived on Monday, and when I leave here I will fly to Newark,NJ (NYC basically) only to fly to Atlanta, GA where I will stay until Halloween. Why? Because for some reason continental decided to keep costs down by flying me across the east coast only to go 300 miles north. Stupid, I know.
The show that I am doing here is American Society for Anesthesiologists and I am going to try to not let them put me to sleep here. (ba-dum-dum – I’M HILARIOUS) I’m staying at the Hard Rock Hotel which is really nice but around 5 miles away from the convention center so it’s costing me a fortune in taxi fare. (However I received a 50% discount and an offer for a personal tour of the city from my driver. lol Made me feel pretty first thing in the a.m.) ![]()
So we are here at the Orange County Convention Center setting up and it’s totally indoors in this HUGE convention center. From across the room I spot a large black thing on the wall nearby. I walk up closer to examine it and it is a HUGE dragonfly. What are the odds of this? I think to myself… I got up close to take a picture and it fluttered off only to land on my laptop! Weird right? So I watch it fly around after getting my snapshot and I’m thinking this must be some sign. A dragonfly inside the convention center? A message meant for me right, why else would there be a dragonfly in here? The dragonfly is this beautiful emerald green, it’s huge with a
wingspan of my fingers all spread out. Truly amazing in sight and only made more ethereal by its gossamer wings. Truly breathtaking. I left for the day with a song in my heart that I wasn’t alone in this town and somewhere somebody was thinking of me.
Day Two comes along and I wonder if my friend will be hanging out with me through the whole show, how cool would that be!? I set up my laptop and settle in for the day only to notice there are dragonflies everywhere. The more I relax my eyes the more I see! All of them have beautiful glistening wings and all of them are large in size, but not all of them are shaped the same or have the beautiful emerald color I adore. How cool!
Day three comes and there are less dragonflies… I found two on the floor squished and this made me rather sad but I tried not to let it bother me. At this point, the dragonflies that I’m finding, or the ones that are finding me are either stunned or half-dead. They move little bits but are timid enough to hang out on my shoulder while I have them. So when they come to me, I take their picture, then send them on their way outside leaving them in a plant where they are protected from the elements and out of immediate view. I hope that they find their way home eventually.
So that is my story about my dragonfly friends I found in the most unlikely of places. Excuse the pictures but my digicam got stolen so I’m forced to use my camera phone which really doesn’t do them any justice.

That is too cool, and even your meez got in on the action.
KUDOS to you, I was wondering if anybody would notice that. It’s a dragonfly! How cool!!
What a sweet thing you did out of your heart…
